"Camel Barns" - Constructed in 1853 and 1854 for use as warehouses, but gained fame for the brief period they were used for stabling a herd of camels behind the buildings that had been imported by the U.S. Government as an experiment for transporting military supplies across the Southwest desert. This experiment proved unsatisfactory so they were driven to Benicia Arsenal for sale at public auction in 1864.Collection
