Description

B/W Photograph from World War II at Benicia Arsenal Per Information sheet: "Petite Miss 'Midge' Louise Leavens (1240 Pine St., Martinez, CA), a messenger at the Benicia Arsenal, scribbles a message on one of the two-ton block buster bombs headed for Japan. The young lady to the left of Miss Leavens is Mrs. Morine Legnitto (113 E. Dalton Manor, Benicia, CA). The group of 'Kibitzers' in the rear are part of the Headquarters staff office. 'The Voice of Benicia Arsenal' was selected by the girls for the message as being a phrase the Japanese would soon learn to understand. Altho it is doubtful anyone in Japan will actually see the message, there can be little doubt that they will hear and feel 'The Voice of Benicia Arsenal'."
