Description

B/W Photograph with a label: "The Clock Tower Fortress was the first U.S. Military Bastion and storehouse constructed in California. It was built to command Carquinez Straits and to protect the post from Indian attacks that never came. The large clock was installed as a memorial to Col. Julian McAllister who commanded the arsenal for 25 years. The upper level of the fortress serves as the community's Activity Center, while the lower level may be used by the Benicia Historical Society." Originally framed in brown wood under glass.
