Description

Photo from the Josephine Cowell research material. Shows women working on ammo belting. Note one woman standing on a box. Bullets were taken from paper boxes that were shipped in wooden crates and placed into a machine that assembled them into belts of about 200 rounds. Every fifth round was usually a tracer so the operator could follow at night where the rounds were impacting. The belting operation was located approximately where the Iron Workers Union building is now located.
