A b/w photograph of a "concord stagecoach, which was a marvel of Yankee ingenuity. Each wheel spoke was hand-hewn from clear, super-seasoned ash. Each was fitted into the hub and rim that would have done hobor (sic) to the finest cabinet maker's art. Several layers of thick steerhide composed the thorough braces. In the large leather compartment at the back, luggage was stored after being carefully weighed on scales" (caption). Used by Wells Fargo & Co. overland stage U.S. mail.Collection
