Color Photograph 153 West E Street Benicia CA Parcel Number: 89-173-11 (Block 14, Lot 10, E. 40') Commonly known as the Van Blaricom House. Historical Name: Barbour House Site/McKenzie Mill Site Frontier Cottage style with gable return at side, remodeled The "L" shaped one story wood frame gable rooted cottage has been greatly remodeled. The front has beenstuccoed and the side and rear are a combination of clapboard and rustic siding. Lot 10 was subdivided and the western 110' of Lot 10 is vacant land on the waterfront and is part of the Anderson Hotel property which fronts on West F Street to the north of the house. Lot 10 was the site of Roswell Barbour's 600 sq. ft. residence, built in 1848. He received the land from Robert Semple when according to agreement he completed the building of his residence within the year. Barbour was an early contractor/builder in Benicia. By 1886 Lot 10 was occupied by J.B. McKenzie Planing Mill which burned in the 1890's. The actual location of the Barbour house on the lot is unknown.
