B/W Photograph: mid-chest-up view of a stocky, gray-haired, older man in glasses, a sportscoat and tie. Typed copy glued on back about "Homer D. Holmes:" "After 20 years in government service, much of the time spent in promoting safety practices, Homer D. Holmes, assistant safety director of Benicia Arsenal, retires this week to become a chinchilla rancher. Holmes entered government work in September 1935 with the Biological Survey which had headquarters at Albuquerque, New Mexico, and become rodent control foreman. In 1942 he transferred to Army Engineers at Deming, New Mexico, where he went into full-time safety work. He remained with the Army Engineers until May 1943 when he transferred to Wingate Ordnance Depot at Callup, N.M., continuing in the field of safety activity. After five years at Wingate, Holmes transferred to Red River Arsenal, Texarkana, Tex. where he continued the promotion of safety working conditions and practice. From Red River Arsenal, Holmes transferred to Benicia, slightly more than two years ago."Collection
