Story has it that it started out as a telegraph office, later a private residence, a rooming house and restaurant for railroad men, also a saloon. During the 1940's and 1950's the building was well-known as the "Alamo Rooms", one of the many bordelloes located at the end of First Street. Later on, the building housed an antique store, has been four restaurants and the upstairs rooms were a start for many of Benicia businesses who moved on to larger accomodations. It is also said to be haunted. There is more information in the file, mostly from the book: Great Expectations, The Story of Benicia, by Richard Dillon.
