VintageEDL Contained Controlled Reader with Filmstrips A/VConcepts Speed Reading The Controlled Reader Projector projects short story filmstrips through a window that slides from left to right. This trains fast and efficient eye movements. As the reader improves their reading rate, it can be set to go faster and faster, improving reading speed and comprehension. It is an amazingly simple concept and amazingly effective. This unit can be set from 60 words per minute to over 840. The EDL Words per Minute Controlled reader was developed by EDL, Educational Developmental Laboratories which was part of McGraw Hill Inc. of Huntington New York. It was designed out of a research program to help readers increase their reading and comprehension speed. This is one of the devices developed out of a study going back to 1931 that EDL did with 39 universities tested eye movement related to reading speeds. The company is still around as part of Taylor Associates named after the founders family.Collection
