Copy of a document from November 1854 from the office of the Sureyor General written by John Hayes, Surveyor General of the United States for the State of California.
It Reads:
I, John C. Hayes, Surveyor General of the United States for the State of California, and as such, having in my office and in my charge and custody a portion of the Arehios (?) of the former Spanish and Mexican Territory or Department of Upper California. Do hereby certify that having caused diligent search to be made in the said archives, there was found no document or documents having reference to any grant of land by the name of Suscol or its boundaries, claimed by Mariano G. Vallejo or any other person whatever. To testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name officially and caused my seal of office to be affixed, at the leity of San Francisco this eighth day of November 1854.Collection
