Elsasser (Lowie Museum of Anthropology): The first of the two semi-popular articles reprinted here, "The Elusive Mill Creeks" (from the magazine Travel, August 1911), it will be noted, was written before Ishi himself was found.....The second article, "Ishi, the Last Aborigine" (from The World's Work, July 1912), was written not long after Ishi came to San Francisco, and is probably the first published reference to Ishi to appear outside of contemporaneous newspaper articles.
