Description

Red velvet vest with gold metallic edge tape and fringe on the open side; there is a tassel at the outer edge of each side; one metal button used for closure (one side stitching is loose); there is dull gold linen lining; the metal button is round with design of a ship, crossed flags, U.P.E.C. and leaf design; Label on inside: B. Pasquale Co. Inc. / 115-117 Post St. San Francisco / Society Goods Mfrs. On front: right side: "P 18" left side: "U.P.E.C." size: 41-1/2" long; 5" widest 2" narrowest The item was part of the rituals of the U.P.E.C. Portuguese organization in Benicia. They were a fraternal organization and organized the annual Holy Ghost Parade and other events. The item was worn at meetings and in parades.
