Secondary Title

White Supremacy and the Black Struggle for a New America

Description

An historical account of Black journalists' struggle during the rise of Jim Crow laws.

Context

Kathy Roberts Forde and Sid Bedingfield are journalism professors with research interests in journalism history and democracy. The authors' goal is to acknowledge and recognize the men and women of the Black press and their accounts of Jim Crow journalism and the New South. This book documents the struggle between two journalisms: white journalism dedicated to building an anti-Black, antidemocratic America and a Black journalism dedicated to building a multiracial, fully democratic "New America".
