Full-length, cream wool gabardine coat with long sleeves, shirt-style collar, and four-button front opening. Coat is self-lined and features sewn-in label, "Halston," at interior back neck. Anne Legendre Armstrong wore this coat and a matching Halston dress for her presentation, circa 1976, to Queen Elizabeth II while serving as U. S. Ambassador to Great Britain. Armstrong accessoried the ensemble with a pearl necklace.
In her long political career, Armstrong achieved a number of "firsts" for women, including co-chair of a Republican National Convention, keynote speaker at a Republican National Convention, counselor and Cabinet member under President Nixon, and U. S. Ambassador to Great Britain. In 1987 she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She was married to Texas rancher and World War II veteran Tobin Armstrong.Collection
