Description

Banner or sash used during the 1915-1916 uprising known as the Plan of San Diego. Banner is white or natural plain weave fabric, probably cotton, in the shape of a long parallelogram or slanted rectangle, 37 to 37 ½ in. long and 4 1/2 in. wide. Banner consists of two pieces of fabric, hemmed at one short edge over a fragment of a red fabric tube or cord and two self-fabric streamers, 3 in. long each. Each long piece of fabric printed in black on exterior, “LIBERTAD, IGUALIDAD E INDEPENDENCIA.” Banner is one item in the collection of material belonging to Agustin S. de la Garza, one of the leaders of the Plan of San Diego.
