Emilia Schunior Ramirez was a distinguished educator and author of the lower Rio Grande Valley. She served as teacher and principal at a number of schools in the region, and later taught Spanish at Pan American College in Edinburg, Texas. Especially noteworthy are her master's thesis about undocumented Mexican children in the South Texas school system, and her history "Ranch Life in Hidalgo County after 1850." Ramirez passed her dedication to learning and regional history to her son, Alfonso Ramirez, who became the first Hispanic mayor of Edinburg.Collection
