Purple Heart awarded posthumously to U.S. Marine Alfredo "Freddy" Gonzalez for actions taken in Vietnam on Feburary 4, 1968, which led to his death. Silk ribbon is purple with narrow white stripes on either side. Heart-shaped medal is bordered in gold, with a raised profile of George Washington against a purple ground, below the arms of Washington, a white shield with two red bars and three red stars, between sprays of green leaves. Bar-pin fastener on reverse. Related service ribbon is displayed on the Gonzalez uniform. Related award certificate dated March 8, 1968.Collection
