Description

After the 1960s, embroidery patterns used for Palestinian dresses (thobe) expressed a national allegiance to Palestine, rather than to a particular village or town. Dresses of this period began to deploy curvilinear motifs of flowers, branches and birds. The dress style was cut with fewer pieces, making it more accessible to Palestinians with limited resources to purchase fabric, threads and embroidery supplies. Palestinian women continue to gather in community to stitch and create traditional dresses with one another, deploying traditional and contemporary formats.
