Place Name

Abil al-Qamh (آبل القمح)

Place Description

A historic Palestinian village in the Safad subdistrict, situated in a hilly area north of the al-Hula Plain, approximately 1 kilometer from the Lebanon border and near the road connecting Safad with al-Mutilla. The village occupied a site with a very long history of settlement, and its name combines a Semitic term associated with meadowland with qamh, meaning wheat; agriculture was the mainstay of the village economy, with wheat and other cereals cultivated across 2,535 dunums in 1944/45 and a further 299 dunums devoted to irrigated land and orchards. Historical records also document wheat, barley, and olives among the crops cultivated in the village, alongside goats, beehives, and vineyards.
