al-Naqab Region (النقب)Place Description
A historic region of southern Palestine extending south from the Hebron hills and Gaza region toward the Sinai and the Gulf of Aqaba. Before 1948, the region encompassed Bir Saba and extensive tribal lands belonging to numerous Palestinian Bedouin tribes, alongside villages, cultivated areas, seasonal agricultural lands, wells, and grazing grounds; rain-fed cultivation of wheat and barley was practiced particularly in the northern and western parts of the region. Following 1948, much of the Palestinian population of Al Naqab was displaced, with additional displacement and forced relocation of Bedouin communities continuing into the early 1950s.Also Known As
