Ain al-Hilweh Camp

Place Description

A Palestinian refugee camp established near Sidon in southern Lebanon in 1948, following the displacement of Palestinians from their homes during the Nakba. The camp became home to refugees from numerous Palestinian villages and towns, including Amqa, Saffuriya, Shaʿb, al-Nahr, Safsaf, Hittin, al-Tira, and al-Tarshiha, and developed into an important center of Palestinian social and cultural life in Lebanon. The camp was established as a place of refuge in 1948 and remains inhabited by Palestinian refugees and their descendants.
