Place Description

A historic Palestinian village in the Yaffa subdistrict, situated on a sandy hill of the central coastal plain at the intersection of the Yaffa–Ramla highway and the coastal road south toward Gaza, just south of the Yaffa–Jerusalem railway. The village had a strongly agricultural landscape, with citrus and bananas, cereals, irrigated crops, and orchards as its principal agricultural production; in 1944/45, 7,990 dunums were devoted to citrus and bananas, 676 dunums to cereals, and 3,195 dunums to irrigated or orchard cultivation, with the citrus groves supplied by artesian wells.
