Six Branch Dress (1960-80)Entry/Object ID
2022.114Description
This dress is considered a machine-made production, meant to emulate the stem stitch. Various flowers are repeated in rows, using multi-colored threads. The fabric is thick, machine-woven synthetic fibers. The dip in the back of the large squared collar, as well as the construction of the large square collar as a whole, is typical of the cut used in Sarafand, a small village outside of the Yaffa region. While the dress was likely produced in the late 20th century, it is indicative of the traditional dressmaking methods that have been carried on in the Palestinian diaspora.Context
