Description

In Southern Palestine, Bedouin women created many embroidered accessories for carrying items of personal value. Typically, these accessories hung from the belt. The blue beads adorning the edges of the belt hanging protect her from the evil eye. The front of the hanging shows an embroidered bird or flower -- a dual meaning motif that is often found in Southern Palestinian bedouin embroideries. This object was purchased in Jerusalem in 1972 by an American tourist.
