Published in the Napa Valley Register 1/30/04 Alan Bendowski, Pleasant Hill Died 1/28/04, age 84 Born 1/12/1920 in San Francisco to Phil & Ruth Walton Bendowski Attended grammar school in SF Graduated from Napa HS in 1937 Played football for Napa HS Entered Civilian Conservation Corps, then returned to school and received an AA from Napa College Worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a coppersmith apprentice in Shop 56 Became a journeyman coppersmith and remained at Mare Island till 1970 Transferred to Hunters Point Naval Shipyard to become the master of the structural group Retired in 1973 with 34 yrs of government service Moved to Glencoe in the Mother Lode Lived there for 20 yrs Returned to Napa 10 yrs ago Former member of the Druids, Napa Elks Lodge, St John's Catholic Church and Masters Assoc of Mare Island Served in the Naval Reserve 1947-1952 Survived by wife Selma, son Don (Vicki), grandchildren David Bendowski, Julie Bryant & Karen Bradford, 8 great-grandchildren and niece Betty Benedict No services held
