Black and white matted photograph of young girl looking at small house. Matte is labelled "Chinn Ranch enclosed swimming pool building Margaret Hoover". Handwritten note on back reads " Anne Issler & I called on Mrs. Jessie Chinn to show her my painting of a victorian house I painted in 1951. The house was later torn down and the lumber used to build the Salvador youth center. She told me the house was built by a Mr. Marsh about 1885. For years the Chinn ranch entrance was marked by an oriental gate and then you drove between a couble line of eucoliptus to the manor house, guest cottage and swimming pool surrounded by a small forest of bamboo. The manor house burned down and Jessie Chinn and her son were living in the guest house. My daughter, age 3, is in this picture which enabled me to give an accurate date. The location of the house I painted in 1948 was once on the Chinn property slightly below the lane of trees. A sweat house was located further back on the other side of the lane of trees. closer to the river. In early times Indians were shot by whiltes as they emerged from their ceremonial sweat house - Margaret C. Hoover Aug 19, 1993."
