Description

Black and white portrait of Dave Cavagnaro. On back of photo is written: I have referred back to my notes that I made while doing research work to write "The History of the Napa Fire Department from 1859 to 1963," which appeared in the Napa Register's Centennial, Saturday, March 30, 1963. "The sixth volunteer fire company, called 'The East Napa Fire Company' was organized about 1902, according to Dave Cavagnaro. The City financed the company, and purchased their equipment which was stored in Penny's Lumber yard, Soscol Avenue and Third Street." This picture is Dave Cavagnaro, the only living member, July 10, 1964. They had three children, Anita Cerletti, Ray and Robert Cavagnaro. Dave and Nellie owned and operated "The Brooklyn Hotel," now Dave's Place, until Nellie passed away 1955. Henry was with the Highway Patrol, all the brothers were members of the East Napa Fire Co. When his father passed on, his mother married Laurence Guisto. Nellie Guisto Smith, Lillie Guisto Kilts and Louie Guisto are from that marriage. Louie Guisto, his half brother, was the famous football star while attending St. Mary's College. After graduation he made the Big League in ball game, and played witht the Philadelphia for seven years. Gassed in War I ans was compelled to give up baseball on the account of his health.
