Description

Black and white photograph of campers with their wagons full of goods at Frank Grigsby Ranch in Napa. The ranch was across from Chimili's Farm Center building. Back of photograph states: "Frank Grigsby Ranch at Windy Flat Monticello Road Napa. Near Wooden Valley. Freight Teams hauling grain from Berryessa Valley or Quicksilver from the mines at Knoxville would camp here at night. At the time this picture was taken Frank said there were 27 teams here but the camera could not take them all in. if they had a trail wagon they used from 10 to 16 horses or fules and drove them with a jerk line. The jerk line is one line on the near leader with a jocky stick from that mules collar to the chinstrap of his mate. the jocky stick will guide the off leader right or left." PF Location: 174d
