Description

Black and white photograph of a man holding a flag. Back of photograph states "Photo provided to S.M. Lee by Mr. Parmelee for the Napa Historical Society. June 1985 - Donated by S.M. Lee, 11 July 1985" Possible info on the photograph: "At a recent meeting of the Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Mendocino and Lake Pioneer Association at Napa City, there was present Mt. Peter Storm of Napa county, an octogenarian [sic], who came here in '47 [sic] and raised the Bear Flag. The Society had his picture taken, with flag in hand, and then sent him to San Francisco on a visit. He has not seen that city since it was a small Mexican village under Alcalde government." Another article published in the same newspaper a few months earlier clarified that Peter Storm, "maker of the bear flag," was elected as an honorary member of the pioneer club on September 9, 1871.
