Black and white photograph of Wall Kennedy supervising men working on Coombs Street in Napa. In the background is the Migliavacca Mansion at its old location about Division and Coombs (near where the Napa County Library is today).
Back of photograph states "This picture was taken by "Ted" (Theodore) Parker whose father owned the Napa Gas Plant, and who lived across from this project about 1895. It was, the project on the corner of Coombs and Division Streets. They were getting ready to lay cobblestone on the street. Under all the streets from Pearl to Division. are cobblestone laid by the late William "Wall" Kennedy "Gang", Deputy Sheriff and Prison Guard for Napa County from 1879 to his death July 5, 1900. The public always call them "Kennedy's Gang". The house was owned by Migliavacca family, and the stone building next is the Migliavacca Winery. The man with dark hat looking and working is a prisoner. The short fat man standing on the sidewalk is Brennan, the boy with straw hat, Tom Brown. The man going across the sheet wsa "Ted" Parker's father. The tall man with the dark vest with whiskers and shovel in hand is "Wall" Kennedy, Deputy Sheriff and Prisoner Guard, my sister Birdie Harren Phillips and is our grandgather. *Note the picket fence, and gas light, and the dirt sidewalk (street) and house not shown in the picture has the Sampson home. *Note when the street of Napa repaved the streets from Pearl to Division, and all the streets in the town of Napa, they left the cobblestone and paved over the cobblestones.
