This is primarily a story of life in Philo, Mendocino County. However, in the late 1850s through the 1860 Federal Census for Hot Spring, Napa, CA, the author's parents and older siblings lived in the St. Helena area where her physician father, John Treble Brown, was a farmer and the proprietor of a drug store near St. Helena. By 1862 the family had relocated to Mendocino County where the author was born in 1872. A photo of "Doc Brown" was found at ancestry.com and is placed in the back of this book.Collection
