National Intelligencer newspaper - Washington, D. C., March 31, 1853 (Vol. LIV No. 7846). On page three, announcement of Mrs. Fillmore's death the day before (March 30) and text of President Franklin Pierce's condolence to former President Fillmore. "Rufus Choate" is written in black ink on the top right corner - Choate (1799-1859) was a U. S. Senator from Massachusetts 1841-1845.
