The Healthy Start, Grow Smart publication series was an initiative of Laura Bush when she was First Lady of Texas and was sponsored by the Texas Department of Health. The series was printed in both English and Spanish for new mothers and was received every month for the first year of the infant's life. As First Lady, Laura Bush asked that this series of booklets be revised and distributed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services across the nation. The series was expanded to include information for the second and third years of a child's life.Collection
