Donald Campbell Kemp (1889-1975) was born in Central City and came to Boulder with his parents at the age of seven. His family moved to Happy Valley where his father began a placer mine and was instrumental in founding the town of Eldora. After a career in the Army, Capt. Kemp retired in 1935 and married Lois Elizabeth Higgins that year. He photographed Boulder County scenes and people for 25 years, and operated a gift shop in Eldora. He was the author of "Happy Valley, a Promoter's Paradise" (Eldora) in 1945, "Colorado's Little Kingdom" (Gilpin County) in 1949, "Silver, Gold, and Black Iron" (Grand Island Mining District) in 1960, and "Quicksilver to Bar Silver" (Mexico's mining camps) in 1972.Collection
