Description

The Silver Dollar Tavern in Nederland, Colorado. Eight people standing in front of building are identified on the back of the photo as (from left to right) Elmer Hetzer, C.E. Danelson (Daddy), Joy Schuler, Ruth Todd, Mrs. Rinn, Mort Bowen, J.D. McKenzie [sic], and Paul Vincent. The building on the right side is the Nederland Service Station.

Context

According to Mary Flarty, The Silver Dollar was opened by Molly MacKenzie and her sister Frances Bolen. Molly was married to J.D. "Jack" MacKenzie who had arrived in Nederland in 1904. After his marriage to Mrs. Mollie Thomas, he bought the Hetzer Hotel, and they operated it as the MacKenzie Hotel until it was destroyed by fire on Dec. 4, 1939. Jack also served as Nederland's Mayor for many years.
