Context

Portia Mansfield and Charlotte Perry graduated from Smith College in 1910, and in 1915 they rented the Dixie Lodge from Annie Brown to start their Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp that today is recognized as the oldest continuously operating performing arts school and camp in the nation. After the first year at Lake Eldora the camp was moved to Steamboat Springs where it still exists today. Stories abound on why the camp only lasted one year at Lake Eldora and include peeping Tom’s and the high altitude. In 2004 Charlotte Perry and Portia Mansfield were inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame.
