In 1936, Lynn W. Van Vleet of Denver bought the 13,000 acre Tom Tucker Ranch north of Nederland and re-named it the Lazy VV Ranch. He theorized taht raising and training Arabian horses at a high altitude would produce animals with increased stamina. He opened the ranch to visitors for Sunday morning shows in June 1939, and the number of the number of people attending the summer shows steadily increased until Van Vleet sold the ranch in 1951. The ranch eventually became known as Caribou Ranch.Collection
