Context

Black Lace Fan, c. 1880 14 in. This dramatic black lace leaf and black wooden stick fan is in exceptional condition. Note the delicate cross-shape piercings in the sticks, as well as the low-relief carving on the guard sticks. Mrs. Ladd purchased this fan in 1942, using her designated “Fan Fund.” The Josephine West Ladd Fan Collection, Neill-Cochran House Museum.
