Cream Satin Floral Fan

Name/Title

Cream Satin Floral Fan

Context

Cream Satin Floral Fan, 1850-1900 11 ¾ in. Backed silk leaf with carved ivory sticks. The painted leaf features a delicate spray of antique roses and buds, along with a single spray on the right-hand side of the fan. The sticks are delicately pierced, and likely were produced in China. The motif of the anchor does not connect in any way to the painted leaf, a common disjunction between leaves painted in the West and joined to sticks produced in the East.
