InkwellContext
On the desk in the upstairs hall of the Neill-Cochran House Museum sits a sterling and glass inkwell that used to belong to Judge Thomas Beauford Cochran (1856-1913) and sat on the desk of his Austin law office when he practiced law.
Thomas Cochran moved to Austin to accept a position on the Federal bench. Later he went into private practice and had a law office at Congress Avenue and 4th Street. He sat on the commission that electrified the city, was Grand Master Mason for Texas (1893), and was a founding member of the Austin Country Club. He almost certainly made an impact on the course of the city of Austin with ink from this little inkwell.
You can see this tiny treasure and all of the artifacts in our collection every week, Wed-Sun, 11-4pm at the Neill-Cochran House Museum.Acquisition
