Wooden-Jointed Doll

Name/Title

Wooden-Jointed Doll

Context

In the Cochran Master Bedroom lives a doll made in America, c. 1920. This jointed wooden doll stands 32 inches tall and is colored with an oil-based lacquer paint on her face, body, and hands. The doll wears a lace cap fille-backed in satin and tied with a silk ribbon, c. 1900. On her feet are pale blue leather boots in worn condition, c. 1900. She is dressed in a cambric shift (n.d.), and a cotton eyelet long-sleeve dress made in the 2nd half of the 20th c. She was surely a young girl's pride and joy in her time, and she still looks lovely after 100 years. This doll was given to the Neill-Cochran House Museum by Mrs. Benny Hughes. You can see her and all our playful artifacts Wed-Sun, 11-4pm.
