The composition is after a famous 15th century painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Filippo Lippi (ca. 1406-1469) and which is now housed in the collection of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. Numerous painted copies in oil, watercolor, as well as print exist after Lippi’s Madonna and Child.
