Cabinet, DisplayContext
In the southeast corner of the NCHM French Parlor is a gold leaf "étagère" display cabinet made in France in 1890. The cabinet contains three shelves and has curved glass panels on the front and sides. The two front legs are rounded, tapered, and collared, and are extensions of two columns decorated with a criss-crossed ribbon carving. The back legs are unadorned and tapered.
Inside the cabinet is a Sèvres tea set with cups and saucers in blue, white, rose, and gold.
This étagère display case was a gift of Mrs. Laura Thomson Barrow in honor of her mother, Mrs. Laura Driscoll Thomson of San Antonio. You can see it, and all of our beautifully displayed artifacts, Wed-Sun, 11-4pm at the Neill-Cochran House Museum.
