VitrineContext
Flanking the Empire-style sofa in the NCHM Foyer is a pair of tapering display cases known as vitrines. This pair of vitrines are in a Neoclassical style and were manufactured in England during the 1880s. They are made of mahogany and glass, and the tops of the interior shelves are upholstered in silk.
These antique vitrines feature a four-sided tapering form standing on a raised square base. The upper case twists to access the two shelves in the lower case. The square top has arcaded gallery trim all around and also pivots to access the upper display cabinet.
These vitrines were gifted to the Neill-Cochran House Museum in 1992 by Mrs. Gertrude Miller Gillespie. You can see them, and all of our display-worthy artifacts, at the Neill-Cochran House Museum Wed-Sun, 11-4pm.Acquisition
