Context

During the twentieth century the historic landmark of Sutton Farm proved especially appealing to local artists. Sutton Farm, located on Whippoorwill Road, was the last working farm in New Castle. Its rural setting and cluster of antique barns and other outbuildings became the inspiration for a range of personal artistic interpretations. Donald Moss (1920-2010) lived in Ridgefield for many years before moving away to Farmington, CT. A commercial illustrator, he is well known for his paintings of Sports Illustrated covers from the 1950's, sports posters and even postage stamps including the Super Bowl and the Olympics.
