Context

Millwood Station, New Castle, N.Y. (1881–1958) Originally built in 1881 by the New York and Putnam Railroad, Millwood Station later became part of the New York Central Railroad’s Putnam Division. Passenger service ceased on May 29, 1958, marking the end of all passenger traffic on the Putnam Line. Freight operations in the area continued intermittently until the early 1970s, with tracks in the Millwood area removed by 1970. The former rail corridor now serves as the North County Trailway. The station building, long unused and deteriorating, was demolished on May 9, 2012.
