Context

In 1828 the Quakers split between two groups, the Modernist Quakers and the Fundamentalists. This separation created two different meeting houses in Chappaqua. Initially the two groups shared the meeting house location on Quaker, with one half using the original meeting house and the other using a new house north of the older one. In 1885 the building was taken down and moved to King Street. The house became a center for both the Orthodox Quakers and the community. It was sold in 1962.
