Thursday Jan 21, 1943. Hello Folks. Well hows the weather up there by now? A little warmer I hope. Its just a mite chilly here. The kind that goes clear through you. I'm goldhicking today. Stepped on a rusty nail yesterday in the field. I had to take a tetanus shot for lockjaw. It reminded me of the time that you and I stepped on a nail the same day and I had to go down to ? to get crutches so's you could walk. Reckon you don't remember Frank, I do. I hobbled down and back with the crutches. Was in town last nite. Helen cooked supper. Had Steak, tender as butter, Mashed potatoes as fluffy as whipped cream, Tender green beans, Lettuce & cottage cheese salad with peaches on it, and man the gravy was ?. Cake and Coffee. & Coffee Am allowed out only 3 nites a week Sat Sun & Wed. Have to be back in camp by 11 P.M. all other nites HA! HA! We've got a little house in town 4 Rooms. Bath, Bedrooms, living room with folding davenport, and kitchen with gas stove. Might as well drop in for a visit sometime. Bring your coffee rationing book Alma. Hey you don't know of anyone that doesn't want theirs do you. Helen sent to Merle for hers but Merle had already used the last ticket that was good until Feb 7. Thats your birthday ain't it Tick. The only letters of Reco. that I got was from Al. Never got the other two. Probably wouldn't have used them anyway. Helen's been pretty busy cleaning the joint up. Called her a while ago, she was going to wax the floors. It was a mess when we moved in. A capt. was there before we got it. Well will close for now. Love, Chuck First letter I have written for a long. time. Hope you can read it.
