The Butts Home, the oldest home in Newton FallsEntry/Object ID
2022.1.84Description
The property was purchased by Cornelius Dubois for a palatial residence on the West bank of the Mahoning River. The construction was left to the son and this began in 1832 and was completed in 1834. One of the amazing features is the glass in the widow panel, installed in 1833. The property was then transferred to Horace Stevens, a settler from the East.
He owned it for several years before transferring possession to Dr. J. F. Porter; a physician and grandfather of the Misses Butts. The interior was kept the same however one of the most outstanding features was the upstairs hallway that is large enough to accommodate the passage of a team of horses. Bedrooms branched off on either side, while unique flowers of the river edge garden are the patches of the beautiful water lilies in the section of the river adjoining the Butts estate. Art by F.
