May 2, 1942 Dear Frank & Alma, Received your letter and have been to busy to answer. We're getting equipment & everything and we have to wait in line for it each time, and that takes a lot of time. I want to thank you for sending me the Herald. Haven't seen your names in it lately. What are you folks doing. Remember all work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Bill Andrews sends me the Plain Dealer, every day. He also sent me a bunch of Liberty Magazine. Good reading in them. No I'm not promoted yet. I think its up for debate though. But don't say anything yet. I'm a platoon guide. It's supposed to be a sgts rating. I haven't written to ? yet haven't had time. Will though. My wife was down two weeks ago, and what a surprise that was. I didn't know anything about it until she got here. A fellow came down to the tent and said someone wanted to see me in the Company ? and sure enough there she was. What a wife I got. So you guys have got a good bowling team now eh? Better not beat Biggard to badly, he may quit. he he. ? wants me to call her up tomorrow. Kind of expensive for her. Got the pictures. Will send them Monday. ? going to send me a camera will send you some snapshots. We got our summer clothing the other day[.] Hope you can read this writing. I'm kind of in a hurry. I've got a lot of work to do. We're supposed to be off this afternoon but that doesn't mean anything. 24 hours a day belongs to the army the rest is yours. Dropped a few lines to Albert the other nite. I reminded him of the $1300 he promised me. Told him to come down on pay day, that I'd play him a little rum. Ha Ha Ha. Dam I still owe him a case of ? I'll take it out of the $1300. Tell him that Frank It'll bring him a laugh. Clover hasn't been feeling good of late. Her eyes are bothering her. Have you folks seen her lately? Todays ? birthday I'm going to write to her later. Now I'm going to tell you something. Maybe you already know yesterday was the first we could ear them. Its kinda warm here. I was on K.P. Wed. Its a little tough. Put in about 14 hours of hard work. I see Abe Hamilton once in a while. He's near to our Co. He's in C.A. I haven't seen Sipka or ? Layshack is close tho. Benish is close. I seen Fetcko once. Well I can't think of anything more to write so will close for now. Tell everyone I said hello. I might get home in about 6 more months of this. I hope so. Write soon, Chuck
